GFG Foundation Scholar

School: Glasgow Caledonian University

Subjects: BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering

What inspired you to study subjects within the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)?

I have been committed to pursuing a career in STEM from an early age. While at school I gained industry experience working with engineers at Mott MacDonald and Anderson Bell Christie in Glasgow. Alongside schoolwork, I also developed skills in coding, programming and using AutoCAD.

I am proud to be a woman in engineering, inspired by female physicists such as Donna Strickland, Maria Goeppert Mayer and Marie Curie. I want to be a role model for other young women, particularly those from the Pakistani community who are often underrepresented in STEM.

How do you feel you have benefitted from the support of the GFG Foundation?

I’ve been dreaming for a year that I would spend my 1st year in halls of residence and experience student life to the full. Now my dream is complete. I have moved into student accommodation and the happiness is unreal. Instead of stressing about money I can now focus on my studies and excelling within the field of electrical and electronic engineering. Thank you for choosing me as one of your scholars.
