Who we are
Along with our founders, Sanjeev and Nicola Gupta, we have two other Trustees who provide strong governance for the GFG Foundation UK.
Jay Hambro is the Chief Investment Officer of GFG Alliance and Chief Executive of Energy and Mining for the SIMEC Group. Jay joined the GFG Alliance in 2016, bringing experience in commodities, energy and finance. He leads the formation and delivery of the global growth strategy.
Having begun his career in resources finance, first with NM Rothschild & Sons and then with HSBC, he then became the CIO for Petropavlovsk PLC, growing the business to become Russia’s second largest gold producer.
He then listed a mining development company on the London and Hong Kong stock exchanges raising >US$3bn to build two mines employing 4,000 people.
He is a member of several industrial professional bodies, a Liveryman of the Goldsmiths Company and a Fellow of the IMMM.
Iain Cholerton CBE
A former senior Army executive who has completed a successful, full military career. Iain has extensive experience in a broad range of operationally focused environments in many parts of the world. Accomplished in leadership and management of diverse organisations and maintaining tight financial constraints often in internationally sensitive situations.
After leaving the army in 2012, Iain worked in several advisory roles. More recently, he has been working on a UK sponsored Security Sector Reform project in Somaliland. Iain also serves as an Ambassador for Cardiff and Vale College, supporting business opportunities and developing the brand image and reputation of the College at home and abroad. He was awarded a CBE in 2007 for his service as Commander Wales.
Our management team
Georgina is the General Manager GFG Alliance and GFG Foundation. She is Nicola Gupta’s sister.
Before joining GFG Alliance, Georgina held senior positions within leading global financial institutions, most recently as a Director at Plurimi Wealth Management as Head of Business Support.
She was previously Vice-President at Morgan Stanley International Wealth Management and divided her time between London and Switzerland, where she successfully managed the wind-down and transition of the Alternative Investments assets during the sale of Morgan Stanley’s Private Wealth Management business.
Before this, Georgina was the coordinator of the Alternative Investments platform throughout EMEA. She also managed the Cross Divisional Relationship Business through the Private Investment Club & Strategic Lead Management platforms.
Claire is Manager of the GFG Foundation in the UK.
Claire studied at The University of Sheffield, where she achieved a First Class Honours degree in Chemistry and a PhD in Organometallic Chemistry.
She has worked for Liberty Steel and its predecessors for 20 years, gaining experience in a variety of departments, including Technical, Operations, Commercial and HR.
Claire is passionate about encouraging young people to studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) based subjects at school and beyond.
