Four of the five new scholars are female, which is hoped will encourage more young girls into engineering. GFG Foundation Manager Claire Neilson explained: “It’s well known that there is a shortage of female engineers and several initiatives are in place across the country to look at addressing this imbalance. The Foundation is delighted to be playing its part in trying to develop more female role models in the world of engineering.”

The five new scholars bring the totally tally to 12 Arkwright Scholars currently being supported by the GFG Foundation, The seven second year scholars, also mentored by colleagues from Liberty companies in the Midlands, South Yorkshire and Scotland, have had chance to visit various sites and get involved in project work. All of which has helped give a broader view of STEM in the workplace.
